Abstract
The present invention provides method and apparatus for quantifying sample clean up in real time by providing curve-fitting measurements of optical or other physical properties of fluid downhole. Fluid is extracted from the formation surrounding a borehole. As fluid continues to be extracted the composition of the extracted fluid changes, altering the measured values of optical and physical properties of the fluid. Measurements are made of optical or physical properties of the sampled fluid, analysis is performed on the acquired measured data points.
Claims24
A method for estimating fluid contamination downhole comprising:
- extracting a fluid from a formation;
- measuring a property of the fluid;
- and
- fitting a non-asymptotic curve to the measured property to estimate the fluid contamination.
An apparatus for estimating fluid contamination downhole comprising:
- a probe in fluid communication with a formation;
- an optical sensor that measures an optical property of a fluid;
- and
- a processor configured to fit the measured property to a non-asymptotic curve to estimate the fluid contamination.
The apparatus of claiml3, further comprising:
- computing a fractional terminal purity, ftp from a straight line regression slope and intercept and from averages of smoothed data values at a plurality of times.
