Abstract
An interface for an industrial control system provides, at a server side, a set of objects for programmer use. Instances of object provider objects, linked to each of the software objects, provide a uniform interface for the software objects allowing software objects from different vendors to be used while preserving a common programmer interface.
Claims33
A system for providing a uniform interface for an industrial controller comprising:
- a web server that provides the uniform interface;
- the uniform interface further comprises at least an object provider utilizing a first standard object protocol to link a software object with a client program wherein the software object employs a second object protocol.
A method of providing a uniform interface for an industrial controller comprising:
- connecting a client to a first Web server communicating with the industrial controller;
- executing an applet program at the client to enable the client to exchange data with the first Web server;
- and
- providing at least an object provider that translates between a standard object protocol and a second protocol employed by a software object.
A system for providing an object based interface for an industrial controller comprising:
- means for providing a standard object protocol overlying a set of different types of software objects;
- and
- means for extracting essential features of each of the software objects, the software objects employing arbitrary object protocols;
- and
- means for translating between each of the arbitrary object protocols and the standard object protocol.
