Abstract
A method and system for updating data for a set of objects in a database is provided. A request identifies a set of objects using a property of the objects and an operation to be performed thereon. The object request is translated to a relational request such that a column in a table corresponding to the property can be operated upon by a relational data store mechanism.
Claims19
A method of performing an operation on a set of entities in a database, comprising:
- receiving a request that identifies a set of entities and a property of the entities to be operated on;
- identifying a table and a column in a relational database that correspond to the property to be operated on;
- and
- operating on the data of the identified column as a function of the request.
A data storage system, comprising:
- a relational data store component;
- a mapping that maps between entities and a location of columns in the relational data store component that store data associated with the entities;
- and
- a data access system configured to receive an object-oriented request that identifies a set of entities of interest and a property of the set of entities to be operated on, to access the mapping to identify a column in the relational data store component that corresponds to at least one entity in the identified set of entities, and to operate on the data of the identified column as a function of the object-oriented request.
A data accessing system in an object-relational (O-R) data storage system that includes a relational database component, the data accessing system exposing an interface which, when invoked, causes the data accessing system to perform the steps of:
- receiving an object-oriented request that identifies a set of entities of interest and a property to be operated on;
- identifying a table and a column in a relational database portion of the O-R database that correspond to the property to be operated on;
- and
- operating on the data of the identified column as a function of the object-oriented request.
