Abstract
A method for attributing revenue for embedded software. The method includes the first step of determining the presence of more than one type of embedded software on a given client site. Then, the process assigns priority based on the length of time each type has resided on the client system and the source of each type, followed by classifying each software type, based on the history of present and predecessor copies of the software. A distribution factor is applied to each software type, based on priority and classification, partner revenue is distributed based on the distribution factor applied to each software type.
Claims8
A method for attributing revenue for embedded software, comprising the steps of:
- determining the presence of more than one type of embedded software on a given client site;
- assigning priority based on the length of time each type has resided on the client system and the source of each type;
- classifying each software type, based on the history of present and predecessor copies of the software;
- applying a distribution factor to each software type, based on priority or classification;
- distributing partner revenue based on the distribution factor applied to each software type.
A method for attributing revenue for embedded software, comprising the steps of:
- determining the presence of more than one type of embedded software on a given client system;
- assigning a state label to each software type, based on factors of how many previous copies of the software have been resident at that location and the length of time for each, further including the steps of
- assigning a state label of “virgin” to a software type that is the first such type ever installed at that location;
- assigning a state label of “extension” to a software type which survived an uninstallation of all other embedded software;
- assigning a state label of “refresh” to a software installed after uninstallation of all other embedded software;
- and
- assigning a state label of “insurance” to a software type that duplicates a software type already installed at that location;
- applying a distribution factor to each software type, based on priority or classification;
- and
- distributing partner revenue based on the distribution factor applied to each software type.
The method of claim 8, further including the step of determining the total revenue amount generated by a specific location.
