Abstract
An improved method, apparatus, and computer instructions for evaluating acquisition costs for a software product. A set of questions regarding the software product is presented. The set of questions are selected from a source. Costs for acquiring the software product are identified in response to receiving a user input to the set of questions. A report is generated using the costs, wherein the report is used to evaluate whether to acquire the software product in response to identifying the costs.

A method in a data processing system for evaluating acquisition costs for a software product, the method comprising:
- presenting a set of questions regarding the software product, wherein the set of questions are selected from a source;
- responsive to receiving a user input to the set of questions, identifying costs for acquiring the software product;
- and
- responsive to identifying the costs, generating a report using the costs, wherein the report is used to evaluate whether to acquire the software product.

A computer program product in a computer readable medium for evaluating acquisition costs for a software product, the computer program product comprising:
- first instructions for presenting a set of questions regarding the software product, wherein the set of questions are selected from a source;
- second instructions, responsive to receiving a user input to the set of questions, for identifying costs for acquiring the software product;
- and
- third instructions, responsive to identifying the costs, for generating a report using the costs, wherein the report is used to evaluate whether to acquire the software product.
A data processing system comprising:
- a bus;
- a communications unit connected to the bus;
- a memory connected to the bus, wherein the memory includes a set of instructions;
- and
- a processor unit connected to the bus, wherein the processor unit executes the set of instructions to present a set of questions regarding the software product, wherein the set of questions are selected from a database;
- identify costs for acquiring the software product in response to receiving a user input to the set of questions;
- and generating a report using the costs, wherein the report is used to evaluate whether to acquire the software product responsive to identifying the costs.
