## Abstract

A method comprising: providing at least one encaged treatment chemical that comprises a treatment chemical and a polymer carrier; placing the encaged treatment chemical into a portion of a subterranean formation; and allowing the treatment chemical to diffuse out of the encaged treatment chemical and into a portion of the subterranean formation or an area adjacent thereto.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method comprising:
providing at least one encaged treatment chemical that comprises a treatment chemical and a polymer carrier;
placing the encaged treatment chemical into a portion of a subterranean formation; and
allowing the treatment chemical to diffuse out of the encaged treatment chemical and into the subterranean formation or an area adjacent thereto.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1 wherein the treatment chemical comprises at least one of the following: a chelating agent; a scale inhibitor; a gel breaker; a dispersant; a paraffin inhibitor; a wax inhibitor; a corrosion inhibitor; a de-emulsifier; a foaming agent; a tracer; a defoamer; a delinker; a scale inhibitor; a crosslinker; a surfactant; derivatives and/or combinations thereof.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1 wherein the encaged treatment chemical is formed by polymerizing a monomer in the presence of the treatment chemical using at least one of the following types of polymerization reactions: free radical polymerization, condensation polymerization, vinyl polymerization, or emulsion polymerization.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1 wherein the monomer comprises at least one of the following: acrylamide; styrene; butadiene; methacrylate; N-isopropyl acrylamide; N,N-dimethyl acrylamide; methacrylamide; methylacrylate; a cationic monomer; or a anionic monomer.

### Claim 5 (depends on 2)

The method of claim 2 further comprising crosslinking the polymerized monomer using a crosslinking agent.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1 wherein the encaged treatment chemical is formed by crosslinking a polymer in the presence of the treatment chemical with a reaction comprising a crosslinking agent.

### Claim 7 (depends on 6)

The method of claim 6 wherein the crosslinking agent comprises at least one of the following: N,N′-methylenebisacrylamide, boric acid, disodium octaborate tetrahydrate, sodium diborate, a pentaborate, ulexite, colemanite, a compound that can supply zirconium IV ions, a compound that can supply titanium IV ions, an aluminum compound, an antimony compound; a chromium compound; an iron compound; a copper compound; or a zinc compound.

### Claim 8 (depends on 6)

The method of claim 6 wherein the polymer being crosslinked comprises a hydratable polymer that comprises one or more of the following functional groups: hydroxyl, cis-hydroxyl, carboxylic acids, derivatives of carboxylic acids, sulfate, sulfonate, phosphate, phosphonate, amino, or amide.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1 wherein the encaged treatment chemical comprises a salt
