Abstract
The present invention is directed to a novel receptor for galanin which has been designated as galanin receptor 2. The invention encompasses both the receptor protein as well as nucleic acids encoding the protein. In addition, the present invention is directed to methods and compositions which rely upon either GAL-R2 proteins or nucleic acids.
Claims10
A method for assaying a test compound for its ability to alter the expression of GAL-R2 comprising:
- growing cells expressing GAL-R2 but substantially free of other galanin receptors in the presence of the test compound;
- collecting the cells;
- and
- comparing GAL-2R expression in the cells exposed to the test compound with control cells grown under essentially identical conditions but not exposed to the test compound, wherein a difference in expression indicates the ability of the test compound to alter expression of GAL-2R.
