Abstract
A burner-based exhaust gas generation system, for producing exhaust gas, typically for use in testing exhaust system devices. Post-burner exhaust gas is recirculated back to a main exhaust line, and used for purposes such as cooling or enhancing the burner output.
Claims17
A burner-based system for generating exhaust gas that simulates exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine, comprising:
- a main flow line;
- a forced air device for forcing air along the main flow line;
- a burner downstream the forced air device;
- a fuel injector for delivering fuel to the burner;
- wherein the burner combusts a mixture of air and fuel, thereby providing exhaust gas;
- a heat exchanger downstream the burner, for cooling the exhaust gas;
- a recirculation flow line for diverting at least a portion of the exhaust gas from the main flow line at a point downstream the heat exchanger and for delivering the diverted exhaust gas back to the main flow line.
A burner-based system for generating exhaust gas that simulates exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine, comprising:
- a main flow line;
- a forced air device for forcing air along the main flow line;
- a burner downstream the forced air device;
- a fuel injector for delivering fuel to the burner;
- wherein the burner combusts a mixture of air and fuel, thereby providing exhaust gas;
- a heat exchanger downstream the burner, for cooling the exhaust gas;
- and
- a recirculation flow line for diverting at least a portion of the exhaust gas from the main flow line at a point downstream the heat exchanger and for delivering the diverted exhaust gas back to the main flow line at a point between the burner and the heat exchanger, such that the heat exchanger cools a mixture of recirculated exhaust gas and exhaust gas direct from the burner.

- a recirculation flow line for diverting at least a portion of the exhaust gas from the main flow line at a point downstream the heat exchanger and for delivering the diverted exhaust gas back to the main flow line at a point downstream the burner;
- and
- an air charging device for receiving the diverted exhaust gas and for boosting the force of flow of the diverted exhaust gas.
