Abstract
Several classes of in vivo carbon monoxide-releasing compounds are useful for the treatment and/or prevention of diseases, such as chronic inflammatory, e.g., rheumatoid arthritis, and of diseases with a strong inflammatory component, such as atherosclerosis, stroke, coronary disease, and Alzheimers disease. The in vivo carbon monoxide-releasing compounds can be attached to known drug vectors and/or known anti-inflammatory drugs, such as aspirin.
Claims43
A method for treating or preventing a disease in a mammal, comprising administering to the mammal a CO-containing organometallic complex;
- provided that the CO-containing organometallic complex is not an Fe or Ru complex and is not [Mn2(CO)10].
A method for treating or preventing a disease in a mammal, comprising administering to the mammal a CO-containing organometallic complex, wherein the CO-containing organometallic complex is selected from the group consisting of:
- M is Mn or Re when Z is +1;
- M is Cr, Mo, or W when Z is 0;
- each E is independently N, S, or O;
- X is halide or weakly coordinating anion (for Z=+1),
- M is Cr, Mo, or W;
- each E is independently N, S, or O;
- X is halide, pseudohalide, carboxylate, OR, or SR (where R is alkyl or aryl),
- M is Cr, Mo, or W;
- each E is independently N, S, or O;
- L is CO, olefin, alkyne, or monodentate 2 electron donor of O, S, N, or P;
- X is halide or weakly coordinating anion,
- [PtCl2(CO)]2, Au(OSO2F)(CO), and MCl(CO) where M is Cu or Au.
A method for treating or preventing a disease in a mammal, comprising administering to the mammal a CO-containing organometallic complex linked to another pharmacologically important molecule.
A method for treating or preventing a disease in a mammal, comprising administering to the mammal a CO-containing inorganic complex comprising an N-donor ligand, an S-donor ligand, or a combination thereof.
A method for treating or preventing a disease in a mammal, comprising administering to the mammal a CO-containing inorganic complex comprising an N-donor ligand, an S-donor ligand, or a combination thereof and is linked to another pharmacologically important molecule.
