Abstract
The present invention provides a method and apparatus for generating SIR estimates early in a time interval that include the benefits of interference suppression without requiring the computation of specific interference suppression elements. In particular, the present invention generates an SIR estimate for a RAKE receiver during a current time interval based on channel estimates generated based on the received signal(s). By applying an offset derived during a previous time interval to the RAKE SIR estimate, the present invention generates a second SIR estimate for a G-RAKE receiver.
Claims33
A method of determining a signal quality metric for a wireless receiver comprising:
- determining a first estimate of the signal quality metric for a first receiver type based on one or more signals received by the receiver;
- and
- applying an offset to the first estimate to determine a second estimate of the signal quality metric for a second receiver type.
A method of determining a signal quality metric for a wireless receiver comprising:
- generating a first estimate of the signal quality metric during a current time interval based on one or more signals received during the current time interval;
- generating a second estimate of the signal quality metric for a subsequent time interval based on a filter and the first estimate;
- and
- adapting the filter based on the first and second estimates to generate a filter for the subsequent time interval.
A signal quality metric estimator for a wireless receiver comprising:
- a first signal quality metric processor configured to determine a first estimate of a signal quality metric for a first receiver type based on one or more signals received by the receiver;
- a combiner to apply an offset to the first estimate to generate a second estimate of the signal quality metric for a second receiver type.
A receiver circuit in a wireless system comprising:
- a signal quality metric estimator to generate a signal quality metric estimate, said signal quality metric estimator comprising:
- a first signal quality metric processor configured to compute a first estimate of the signal quality metric for a first receiver type based on one or more signals received by the receiver circuit;
- and
- a combiner to apply an offset to the first estimate to generate a second estimate of the signal quality metric for a second receiver type.
A signal quality metric estimator for a wireless receiver comprising:
- a first processor configured to generate a first estimate of the signal quality metric during a current time interval based on one or more signals received during the current time interval;
- a second processor configured to generate a second estimate of the signal quality metric for a subsequent time interval based on a filter and the first estimate;
- and
- a filter adapter operatively coupled to the second processor configured to adapt the filter during the current time interval based on the first and second estimates to generate the filter for the subsequent time interval.
A receiver circuit in a wireless system comprising a signal quality metric estimator to generate a signal quality metric estimate, said signal quality metric estimator comprising:
- a first processor configured to generate a first estimate of the signal quality metric during a current time interval based on one or more signals received by the receiver circuit during the current time interval;
- a second processor configured to generate a second estimate of the signal quality metric for a subsequent time interval based on a filter and the first estimate;
- and
- a filter adapter operatively coupled to the second processor configured to adapt the filter during the current time interval based on the first and second estimates to generate the filter for the subsequent time interval.
