Abstract
Facilitating node mobility includes facilitating a communication session for a mobile node communicated along a first communication path. A first anchor point manages context information for the communication session, where the context information comprises information for supporting the communication session. A command to transfer the context information to a second anchor point is received from a home agent. The second anchor point is operable to facilitate communication of the communication session along a second communication path. The context information is transferred in response to the command.
Claims25
A method for facilitating mobile node mobility, comprising:
- facilitating at a first anchor point a communication session for a mobile node, the communication session communicated along a first communication path;
- managing context information for the communication session, the context information comprising information for supporting the communication session;
- receiving a command from a home agent to transfer the context information to a second anchor point, the second anchor point operable to facilitate communication of the communication session along a second communication path;
- and
- transferring the context information in response to the command.
An apparatus for facilitating mobile node mobility, comprising:
- a first anchor point operable to:
- facilitate a communication session for a mobile node, the communication session communicated along a first communication path;
- and
- manage context information for the communication session, the context information comprising information for supporting the communication session;
- and
- an interface operable to:
- receive a command from a home agent to transfer the context information to a second anchor point, the second anchor point operable to facilitate communication of the communication session along a second communication path;
- and
- the first anchor point further operable to:
- transfer the context information in response to the command.
A system for facilitating mobile node mobility, comprising:
- means for facilitating at a first anchor point a communication session for a mobile node, the communication session communicated along a first communication path;
- means for managing context information for the communication session, the context information comprising information for supporting the communication session;
- means for receiving a command from a home agent to transfer the context information to a second anchor point, the second anchor point operable to facilitate communication of the communication session along a second communication path;
- and
- means for transferring the context information in response to the command.
A method for facilitating mobile node mobility, comprising:
- facilitating a communication session for a mobile node, the communication session communicated along a first communication path, context information for the communication session managed by a first anchor point, the context information comprising information for supporting the communication session;
- receiving a notification from a foreign agent, the notification indicating that the mobile node has moved;
- and
- instructing the first anchor point to transfer the context information to a second anchor point, the second anchor point operable to communicate the communication session along a second communication path.
An apparatus for facilitating mobile node mobility, comprising:
- logic operable to:
- facilitate a communication session for a mobile node, the communication session communicated along a first communication path, context information for the communication session managed by a first anchor point, the context information comprising information for supporting the communication session;
- an interface coupled to the logic and operable to:
- receive a notification from a foreign agent, the notification indicating that the mobile node has moved;
- and
- the logic further operable to:
- instruct the first anchor point to transfer the context information to a second anchor point, the second anchor point operable to communicate the communication session along a second communication path.
A system for facilitating mobile node mobility, comprising:
- means for facilitating a communication session for a mobile node, the communication session communicated along a first communication path, context information for the communication session managed by a first anchor point, the context information comprising information for supporting the communication session;
- means for receiving a notification from a foreign agent, the notification indicating that the mobile node has moved;
- and
- means for instructing the first anchor point to transfer the context information to a second anchor point, the second anchor point operable to communicate the communication session along a second communication path.
A system for facilitating mobile node mobility, comprising:
- a first anchor point operable to:
- manage context information for a communication session for a mobile node, the context information comprising information for supporting the communication session, the communication session communicated along a first communication path;
- and
- an agent coupled to the first anchor point and operable to:
- instruct the first anchor point to transfer context information to a second anchor point, the second anchor point operable to communicate the communication session along a second communication path;
- and
- the first anchor point further operable to:
- transfer the context information in response to the instruction.
