Abstract
A projection display system includes (1) a first polarizer, (2) a transparent screen, (3) a second polarizer on the transparent screen, and (4) a projector for projecting an image through the first polarizer and onto the transparent screen. The first and the second polarizers have different polarization directions so that the image is visible from a first side of the transparent screen and invisible from a second side of the transparent screen.

A projection display system, comprising:
- a first polarizer having a first polarization direction;
- a transparent screen;
- a second polarizer on the transparent screen, the second polarizer having a second polarization direction different from the first polarization direction;
- and
- a projector for projecting an image through the first polarizer and onto the second polarizer, wherein the image is visible from a first side of the transparent screen and invisible from a second side of the transparent screen.
A method for projecting an image on a transparent screen so the image is visible from a first side of the transparent screen but invisible from a second side of the transparent screen, the method comprising:
- projecting the image (1) through a first polarizer and (2) onto a second polarizer on the transparent screen, wherein the first polarizer has a first polarization direction and the second polarizer has a second polarization direction different from the first polarization direction.
A display system, comprising:
- a liquid crystal display projecting an image comprising polarized light;
- a matrix of fiber-optic cables having first ends mounted to the liquid crystal display to receive the image;
- a transparent screen, wherein the fiber-optic cables have second ends mounted to the transparent screen to project the image;
- a polarizer, wherein the polarizer receives the image from the fiber-optic cables, the image being visible from a first side of the transparent screen and invisible from a second side of the transparent screen.
A method for projecting an image on a transparent screen so the image is visible from a first side of the transparent screen but invisible from a second side of the transparent screen, the method comprising:
- projecting an image comprising polarized light using a liquid crystal display;
- transporting the image from the liquid crystal display to a transparent panel with a matrix of fiber-optic cables having first ends mounted to the liquid crystal display and second ends mounted to the transparent panel;
- projecting the image from the transparent panel onto a polarizer, wherein the image is visible from a first side of the transparent panel and invisible from a second side of the transparent panel.
A projection display system, comprising:
- a transparent screen;
- a polarizer on the transparent screen, the polarizer having a first polarization direction;
- a retarder plate on a first side of the transparent screen;
- a mirror on the first side of the transparent screen;
- a projector on a second side of the transparent screen, wherein:
- the projector projects an image through the transparent screen, the polarizer, the retarder plate, and onto the mirror;
- the mirror reflects the image onto the polarizer so that the reflected image is visible from the first side of the transparent screen and invisible from the second side of the transparent screen.
A method for projecting an image on a transparent screen so the image is visible from a first side of the transparent screen but invisible from a second side of the transparent screen, the method comprising:
- projecting the image through (1) a polarizer on the transparent screen and (2) a retarder plate, wherein the polarizer has a first polarization direction and the retarder plate changes light aligned along the first polarization direction to a second polarization direction;
- and
- reflecting the image back onto the polarizer on the transparent screen.
