Abstract
An antenna unit comprising orientation detection means and/or force detection means and an antenna is operable to control its transmission and/or reception characteristic in response to detected orientation of the antenna unit. Absolute orientation of the unit will affect the transmission and/or reception characteristics; in one embodiment changes in orientation and motion will affect these characteristics in order to take account of Doppler effects.
Claims36
An antenna unit for connection with a communications device, for use in establishing wireless communication between said communications device and a further device, the antenna unit comprising an accelerometer operable to detect orientation with respect to gravity and a first antenna, the antenna unit being arranged in operation to modify at least a first transmission characteristic in response to detected orientation.
An antenna unit for connection with a communications device, for use in establishing wireless communication between said communications device and a further device, the antenna unit comprising at least an accelerometer operable to detect orientation with respect to gravity and at least a first antenna, the antenna unit being arranged in operation to modify at least a first reception characteristic in response to detected orientation.
A method of transmission or reception by an antenna apparatus, the method comprising the steps of:
- detecting an acceleration of the antenna apparatus, and;
- modifying at least a first transmission or reception characteristic of the antenna apparatus in response to a determined orientation.
