Abstract
A support assembly for a collapsible automobile shade such as a pleated or folding screen which can be selectively moved between a collapsed position for storage and an open position for placement in a vehicle window. The support assembly consists of one or more arcuate compressible members which extend beyond the perimeter of the pleated or folding screen. Each of the arcuate compressible members is resiliently compressible, for the purpose of conforming to an edge or perimeter of an automobile window in which the shade is installed, while maintaining the screen in an open position, thereby supplying an expansive force to hold the shade in place in the open position. The shade can also be provided with a pocket.
Claims21
A shade for use within a vehicle comprising:
- a shade having at least one closed edge defining a continuous perimeter boundary;
- at least one compressible member stiffening said closed edge and being contiguous with said perimeter boundary;
- and,
- a means to suspend said shade adjacent to a window within a vehicle, said suspension means temporarily grips said compressible member and the remainder of said shade hangs from said suspension means.
A shade for use within a vehicle comprising:
- a shade having at least one closed edge defining a continuous perimeter boundary;
- at least one compressible member stiffening said closed edge and being contiguous with said perimeter boundary;
- at least one resilient member generally outwards of said compressible member;
- and,
- a means to connect said resilient member to said compressible member thus adapting said shade to be secured within a window inside a vehicle, said connecting means temporarily grips said compressible member.
A shade for use upon an edge of a vehicle, such as the edge of a window or the edge of a trunk, comprising:
- a shade having at least one closed edge defining a continuous perimeter boundary;
- at least one compressible member stiffening said closed edge and being contiguous with said perimeter boundary;
- and,
- a stand suspending said shade upon an edge of the vehicle, said stand temporarily gripping said compressible member and the remainder of said shade extending away from said stand;
- said stand having a body, generally arcuate, having a free end and an opposite upper end and a plurality of legs having a generally inverted L shape, said upper end having a hook extending outward therefrom and a plurality of coaxial sockets spaced apart below said hook, and two members, generally arcuate, each member having a free end and an upper end hingedly connecting to said body, said members moving from an open position wherein said shade is held upright to a closed position adjacent said body wherein said stand folds compactly, each of said members having a second hook extending outward therefrom for cooperation with said hook of said body and a plurality of coaxial sockets offset from those of said body, said sockets of said body and said members forming a hinged connection.
