Abstract
A method and system for producing inert rich gas includes a source of combustion byproducts and a separation system for separating inert and non-inert substances in the combustion byproducts. The separation system can include a plurality of separation devices connected in series.
Claims19
A method for producing inert gas comprising:
- operating a combustion engine so as to produce an exhaust gas, the exhaust gas comprising non-inert gas and inert gas, the volume percentage of non-inert gas of the exhaust gas being less than the volume percentage of non-inert gas of ambient air;
- and
- separating a portion of the inert gas from the non-inert gas contained in the exhaust gas with a series of separation devices.
A system for producing inert gas comprising an air/fuel engine having an exhaust outlet, a compressor having a compressor outlet and an inlet communicating with the exhaust outlet, and at least first and second separation devices, connected in series, communicating with the compressor outlet and configured to separate inert and non-inert gases from the exhaust.
