Insulated shipping container systems and methods thereof

A modular insulated shipping system comprising:

• an insulated base container which has sidewalls configured to form a payload cavity to receive a payload, wherein the payload has a surface area and wherein the base container comprises supports to contact the payload and space the payload from the sidewalls of the base container, thereby exposing the surface area of the payload to an air filled space of the base container to facilitate heat transfer;
• and
• a collar configured to cooperatively fit with the base container, wherein the collar is configured to receive a heat transfer element, wherein the heat transfer element has as surface area and wherein the collar further comprises supports to space the heat transfer element from the payload and the sidewalls of the collar, thereby exposing the surface are of the heat transfer element to an air filled space of the shipping system to facilitate heat transfer.

The modular shipping system of claim 18, wherein the supports are configured to expose approximately at least 50% of the surface area of the heat transfer element to air.

The modular shipping system of claim 18, wherein the supports are configured to expose approximately at least 50% of the surface area of the payload to air.

The modular shipping system of claim 18, wherein the base container comprises a cooperating fit.

The modular shipping system of claim 18, wherein the collar comprises a cooperating fit.

The modular shipping system of claim 18 comprising a lid configured to fit onto said collar.

The modular shipping system of claim 23, wherein the lid comprises a cooperating fit.

The modular shipping system of claim 18, wherein the heat transfer element cavity is configured to receive a rigid or foam refrigerant.

The modular shipping system of claim 18 comprising a closure method.

The modular shipping system of claim 26, wherein the closure method is a closure carton.

The method of claim 30, further comprising the step of placing a lid onto the base container and collar assembly, wherein said lid comprises a cooperative fit.

The method of claim 30 further comprising the step of pre-packing the base container with a payload.

The method of claim 30 further comprising the step of pre-packing the collar with a refrigerant.

The method of claim 30, wherein the step of pre-packing the base container occurs at a location separate and apart from the step of packing the collar.

The method of claim 30, wherein the step of pre-packing the collar occurs at a location separate and apart from the step of packing the base container.
