Abstract
According to at least one embodiment, a method comprises determining that a thread desires a lock for accessing a resource. The method further comprises dynamically determining a portion of the resource for which a lock is to be obtained for the thread, and obtaining the lock on the determined portion. According to at least one embodiment, a system comprises a processor for executing a plurality of threads, and a resource usable by the plurality of threads. The threads are each operable to dynamically determine a portion of the resource for which a lock is to be obtained for the thread desiring to use the resource.
Claims52
A method comprising:
- determining that a thread desires a lock for accessing a resource;
- dynamically determining a portion of the resource for which a lock is to be obtained for the thread;
- and
- obtaining the lock on the determined portion.
A method comprising:
- attempting, by a thread that desires to use a resource, trylock on a determined first portion of the resource;
- if trylock is unsuccessful, the thread attempting trylock on another portion of the resource;
- and
- if trylock is successful for a portion of the resource, the thread acquiring a lock on and using the portion of the resource for which trylock is successful.
A system comprising:
- a processor for executing a plurality of threads;
- a resource usable by said plurality of threads;
- said threads each operable to dynamically determine a portion of the resource for which a lock is to be obtained for the thread desiring to use the resource.
