Abstract
A method for computational analysis includes collecting an application dataset and extracting one or more features from the application dataset in order to generate an utilization workload model. An apparatus for providing computational analysis is also described.

A method for computational analysis, comprising:
- collecting an application dataset;
- and
- extracting one or more features from the application dataset to generate a workload model.
A system for characterizing applications, comprising:
- means for analyzing utilization traces of one or more applications;
- and
- means for characterizing a workload for each of the one or more applications using one or more features extracted from the utilization traces.
Application instructions on a computer-usable medium where the instructions, when executed, effect computational analysis, comprising:
- developing a fundamental representation of an application dataset;
- and
- building a model described by one or more features from the fundamental representation.
A method for characterizing application workload, comprising:
- collecting trace data from one or more applications running on one or more computational devices;
- and
- applying principal component analysis to the trace data in order to characterize each application's workload.
A computer, comprising:
- a memory for storing utilization traces of one or more applications;
- and
- a controller for analyzing the utilization traces of the one or more applications and characterizing the workload for each of the one or more applications using one or more features extracted from the utilization traces.
