Abstract
This invention is a scanning laser device with a universal carriage that holds any type of optical element. The carriage rotates about an axis that is substantially co-axial to the incident laser beam, thereby causing the laser energy passing through the optical element to sweep through a 360° circle. The preferred embodiment uses a rod lens as the optical element, resulting in a large circular beam spot. The device may utilize laser sources of various wavelengths and pulse frequencies, and multiple devices may be combined to scan an even larger area.
Claims29
A laser device comprising:
- a) at least one laser energy source for generating a laser beam;
- and
- b) a rotatable carriage for holding an optical element upon which the laser beam is incident;
- c) wherein the laser beam sweeps a beam spot as the carriage is rotated.
A laser device comprising:
- a) at least one laser energy source for generating a laser beam;
- and
- b) a scanning head further comprising:
- i. a hollow spindle substantially coaxial with the laser beam and through which the laser beam is conveyed to an optical element;
- ii. a rotatable carriage for holding the optical element upon which the laser beam is incident;
- wherein the laser beam sweeps a beam spot as the carriage is rotated.
