Abstract
An implantable medical device (IMD) includes a therapy circuit for delivering atrial pacing and a control circuit for detecting a return to sinus rhythm, determining the duration of atrial arrhythmia preceding the return to sinus rhythm, and controlling the therapy circuit to deliver transient atrial pacing based on the duration.
Claims20
An implantable medical device comprising:
- a therapy circuit for delivering atrial pacing;
- and
- a control circuit for detecting a return to sinus rhythm, determining the duration of atrial arrhythmia preceding the return to sinus rhythm, and controlling the therapy circuit to deliver transient atrial pacing based on the duration.
An implantable medical device comprising:
- a therapy circuit for delivering pacing;
- a sensor circuit;
- and
- a control circuit for controlling the therapy circuit to deliver transient, atrial pacing therapy following a return to sinus rhythm after an atrial arrhythmia of sustained duration based on a parameter measured by the sensor circuit.

A computer-implemented response system for reducing the risk of stroke after an atrial arrhythmia, the system comprising:
- means for determining whether the arrhythmia has terminated;
- means for determining whether the arrhythmia was for a sustained duration of time, if the arrhythmia has terminated;
- means for selecting a pacing duration, if the arrhythmia was for a sustained duration of time;
- means for selecting a pacing rate;
- means for pacing the atrium at the pacing rate for the pacing duration.
