Heating the hypothalamus, preferably by ultrasound, to cause the release of αMSH in the brain.

A method of providing therapy for a patient having a brain disorder, comprising the steps of:
- a) selectively heating a first portion of the brain of the patient to induce cooling of a second portion of the brain.
A method of providing therapy for a patient having a brain disorder, comprising the steps of:
- a) selectively heating a portion of the brain to induce intracerebral release of MSH from the hypothalamus.
A device for providing therapy to the brain, comprising;
- a) an ultrasound emitter adapted to heat a portion of the brain, and
- b) a temperature monitor.
