The present invention relates to a novel polymorph of Quetiapine fumarate and a simple method for its preparation.

A novel amorphous form IV of quetiapine fumarate having the characteristic X-ray diffraction pattern of a plain halo between about 10 to 50° of 2θ values and an FTIR spectrum showing peaks at about 3321, 3050, 2867, 1718, 1599, 1573, 1457, 1413, 1336, 1305, 1244, 1121, 1063, 1014, 997, 926, 835, 813, 794, 766, 668 and 466 cm−1.
