Abstract
The present invention provides for a proteomic approach to classifying glomerular tissue as normal, non-sclerotic or sclerotic. In particular, the proteomic approach may employ laser capture microdissection followed by MALDI-TOF. A particular target of interest that is highly relevant in distinguishing such tissues is thymosin β4.
Claims18
A method of classifying glomerular tissue as normal, non-sclerotic or sclerotic comprising:
- (a) obtaining a glomerular tissue sample;
- (b) analyzing protein content of said tissue sample;
- (c) comparing the protein content of said tissue sample with a predetermined standard;
- and
- (d) classifying said glomerular tissue as normal, non-sclerotic or sclerotic.

A method of identifying a marker in a glomerular tissue comprising:
- (a) obtaining a diseased glomerular tissue sample;
- (b) analyzing protein content of said tissue sample;
- (c) comparing the protein content of said tissue sample with a normal glomerular tissue sample;
- and
- (d) identifying a marker in said diseased glomerular tissue sampel that is as normal, non-sclerotic or sclerotic.
