Method and apparatus for high rate data transmission in wireless communication

A method comprising:

• receiving an assignment of multiple forward link (FL) carriers and at least one reverse link (RL) carrier;
• and
• receiving data transmission on one or more of the multiple FL carriers.

An apparatus comprising:

• means for receiving an assignment of multiple forward link (FL) carriers and at least one reverse link (RL) carrier;
• and
• means for receiving data transmission on one or more of the multiple FL carriers.

A processor readable media for storing instructions operable to:

• receive an assignment of multiple forward link (FL) carriers and at least one reverse link (RL) carrier;
• and
• direct reception of data transmission on one or more of the multiple FL carriers.

An apparatus comprising:

• at least one processor configured to obtain acknowledgements for packets received on multiple data channels, to channelize an acknowledgement for each data channel with an orthogonal code assigned to the data channel to generate a symbol sequence for the data channel, and to generate modulation symbols for an acknowledgement channel based on symbol sequences for the multiple data channels;
• and
• a memory coupled to the at least one processor.

An apparatus comprising:

• at least one processor configured to obtain full channel quality indication (CQI) reports for multiple forward link (FL) carriers, each full CQI report indicative of received signal quality for one FL carrier, and to send the full CQI reports for the multiple FL carriers in different time intervals on a CQI channel;
• and
• a memory coupled to the at least one processor.

A method comprising:

• obtaining full channel quality indication (CQI) reports for multiple forward link (FL) carriers, each full CQI report indicative of received signal quality for one FL carrier;
• and
• sending the full CQI reports for the multiple FL carriers in different time intervals on a CQI channel.

An apparatus comprising:

• means for obtaining full channel quality indication (CQI) reports for multiple forward link (FL) carriers, each full CQI report indicative of received signal quality for one FL carrier;
• and
• means for sending the full CQI reports for the multiple FL carriers in different time intervals on a CQI channel.

An apparatus comprising:

• at least one processor configured to operate in a control-hold mode that allows for transmission of a gated pilot, to receive a data channel sent on a forward link while in the control-hold mode, to transmit the gated pilot on a reverse link if no other transmissions are being sent on the reverse link, and to transmit a full pilot on the reverse link if a transmission is being sent on the reverse link;
• and
• a memory coupled to the at least one processor.
