Abstract
In connection with the digitization of documents, a process and system wherein an automated quality control function operates to automatically determine the quality of an image according to predetermined characteristics and their associated values. According to this novel system and process, if an image fails to meet specified quality criteria it may be marked as such and that information as well as other information concerning the image will be made available during archival and thereafter including during a retrieval operation.
Claims17

- (b) determining a quality value for each of said original images, reflective of whether or not said original image meets a predetermined threshold quality requirement;
- and
- (c) storing each of said scanned images.
A system for scanning original images and storing said original images as scanned images comprising:
- (a) at least one device for converting said original images into said scanned images;
- (b) an image quality detector capable of determining whether or not each of said original images meets a predetermined quality threshold;
- and
- (c) a memory for storing said scanned images and a value indicative of whether or not the original image associated with each of said scanned images meets said predetermined quality threshold.
