Information processing apparatus capable of customizing device driver, information processing method, and control program

An information processing method of customizing a device driver that controls a printer, by setting a property of the device driver, the method comprising the steps of:

• determining whether the device driver is customizable;
• if it is determined in the determination step that the device driver is customizable, setting a document property and a device property by displaying, on display means, a setting screen for setting the document property and the device property;
• acquiring data corresponding to the set property of the device driver;
• and
• displaying the data acquired in the acquisition step in a user interface based on the document property and the device property set in the setting step.

An information processing apparatus adapted to customize a printer driver, comprising:

• activation means for activating a user interface of the printer driver by using a pseudo application program interface (API) adapted to provide functions equivalent to functions of an operating system;
• acquisition means for acquiring, using the pseudo API, a command or data input via the user interface of the printer driver activated by the activation means;
• and
• setting means for make a setting associated with the printer driver in terms of a printer property corresponding to the input command or data acquired by the acquisition means.

An information processing method for an information processing apparatus adapted to customize a printer driver, comprising the steps of:

• activating a user interface of the printer driver by using a pseudo application program interface (API) adapted to virtually provide functions of an operating system;
• acquiring, using the pseudo API, a command or data input via the user interface of the printer driver activated in the activation step;
• and
• making a setting associated with the printer driver in terms of a printer property corresponding to the input command or data acquired in the acquisition step.

A storage medium in which a control program is stored, the program being adapted to control a computer, in an information processing apparatus adapted to customize a printer drive, to execute a process comprising the process of:

• activating a user interface of the printer driver by using a pseudo application program interface (API) adapted to virtually provide functions of an operating system;
• acquiring, using the pseudo API, a command or data input via the user interface of the printer driver activated in the activation step;
• and
• making a setting associated with the printer driver in terms of a printer property corresponding to the input command or data acquired in the acquisition step.
