Abstract
A video display device having an automatic input switching capability includes at least one input connector coupled to the video display device for accepting an external video signal, sensing means coupled to the at least one input connector for detecting the presence of the external video signal; control means coupled to the sensing means and video circuitry of the video display device, wherein the control means controls the operation of the video display device when a new video signal is sensed by the sensing means.
Claims11
A video display device having an automatic input switching capability comprising:
- at least one input connector coupled to said video display device for accepting an external video signal;
- sensing means coupled to said at least one input connector for detecting the presence of said external video signal;
- control means coupled to said sensing means and video circuitry of said video display device, wherein said control means controls the operation of said video display device when a new video signal is sensed by said sensing means.
A video display device having an automatic input switching capability, said video display device comprising:
- a power supply;
- a plurality of input connectors coupled to said video display device, each of said input connectors being adapted to accept an external video signal;
- at least one sensing circuit coupled to said power supply and said input connectors for detecting the presence of said external video signal, said sensing circuit including at least a comparator, and wherein said sensing circuit detects a presence of a new video signal by sensing when a vertical sync component of said video signal rises above a predetermined threshold level;
- at least one control means coupled to said at lest one sensing circuit and video circuitry of said video display device, wherein said control means controls the operation of said video display device when a new video signal is sensed by said sensing circuit.
A television having an automatic input switching capability, said television comprising:
- a power supply;
- a plurality of input connectors coupled to said video display device, each of said input connectors being adapted to accept an external video signal;
- a plurality of sensing circuits coupled to said power supply and each of said input connectors for detecting the presence of said external video signal, said sensing circuit including at least a comparator, and wherein said sensing circuit detects a presence of a new video signal by sensing when a vertical sync component of said external video signal rises above a value of approximately 10 Hz;
- a control circuit coupled to each of said sensing circuits and video circuitry of said video display device, wherein said control circuit controls the operation of said television when a new external video signal is present on one of said input connectors and is sensed by one of said sensing circuits.
