System and methid for enhanced alertness and efficient distributed management for video surveillance

A system for distribution of remote video surveillance monitoring tasks, comprising:

• at least one computer network;
• at least one surveillance site;
• at least one video camera at each surveillance site, the camera being connected to the computer network;
• at least one operator computer connected to the computer network and receiving at least one video feed from the video camera;
• and
• programming associated with the system for
• determining the availability of operators,
• directing the operator computer to receive at least one video feed, and
• re-assigning the video feed to another operator computer.

A system as recited in 74, further comprising programming associated with the system for:

• receiving a notification of a break or a request for a break from at least one operator;
• authorizing the break, if authorization is necessary;
• and
• re-assigning the video feeds of the operator on break to another operator.
