Abstract
A ductile repair cylinder liner for a diesel engine, the cylinder liner having an additional cooling groove with a parabolic varying cross-section machined into the outer surface of the cylinder liner immediately below the radially extending locating flange for the liner.
Claims37
In an internal combustion engine having a cylinder liner having a top neighboring a firing zone, and chambers having a relative pressure differential, an additional cooling groove,
- said additional cooling groove being located at the top of the cylinder liner in such liner, said addition cooling groove having a curved cross-section with an enlarged section,
- fluid means to connect said additional cooling groove to chambers having a relative pressure differential to provide for coolant movement therethrough,
- and said enlarged section being radially aligned with said fluid means at the top of the cylinder liner.
In an internal combustion engine having a cylinder liner having a top with an outer extending flange neighboring a firing zone, and chambers having a relative pressure differential, an additional cooling groove,
- said additional cooling groove being located at the top of the cylinder liner in such liner, said addition cooling groove having a varying cross-section with an enlarged semi-circular section,
- said enlarged semi-circular section being adjacent to the flange at the top of the cylinder liner, said enlarged semi-circular section having an opening substantially adjacent to the outer extending flange,
- and fluid means to connect said additional cooling groove to chambers having a relative pressure differential to provide for coolant movement therethrough.
A method of manufacturing a cylinder liner, said method comprising forming a cylinder liner wall having a generally nodule and ductile structure,
- machining the inner and the outer surface of the liner, the outer surface including a coolant circulation chamber on the upper end thereof,
- and hardening the inner surface of the liner wall.
In an internal combustion engine having a cylinder liner having a top with a flange neighboring a firing zone, chambers having a relative pressure differential, cylinder liner being in a surrounding engine that supports such liner,
- the liner including an additional cooling groove, said additional cooling groove being located at the top of the cylinder liner in such liner,
- said additional cooling groove having a lateral cross-section, said lateral cross-section being other than rectangular,
- an enlarged liner wall section, said enlarged liner wall section being adjacent to the flange at the top of the cylinder liner, said enlarged liner wall section extending further than the joint with the surrounding engine block support,
- and fluid means to connect said additional cooling groove to chambers having a relative pressure differential to provide for coolant movement therethrough.
A cylinder liner for an internal combustion engine, the liner having a top edge,
- the improvement of a cooling groove, said cooling groove being in the top edge of the liner and said cooling groove including a non-rectangular cross-section.
A method for manufacturing a cylinder liner for an internal combustion engine, said method comprising forming a machinable liner blank having an inner and outer surface,
- machining a non-rectangular cross-section cooling groove in the outer surface of the liner and hardening the inner surface of the liner.
