Abstract
A system and method for identifying and presenting various views of files of a set of computers. In one preferred embodiment, the present invention presents a user with an explorer type interface that allows a user to view, for example, all computers of a network, and to select particular ones of the computers for analysis. The present invention allows a user to select specific computers and compare, for example, all files that are common to all those computers, or to display all files unique to each of those computers. In a preferred embodiment, the present invention also allows the user to take action on the presented information, such as to apply a common security policy to the group of machines.
Claims20
A method in a data processing system for correlating resources across a plurality of computers in a network for display, the method comprising the steps of:
- identifying a set of computers within the plurality of computers in the network;
- examining the resources present in the set of computers to identify files present on each computer that are one of similar to or different from files present in other computers in the set of computers;
- and
- displaying the similar or different files to a user.
A data processing system for correlating resources for display, comprising:
- a plurality of computers in a network;
- a search engine within a computer in the plurality of computers, wherein the search engine identifies a set of computers within the plurality of computers in the network and examines resources present in the set of computers to identify files present on each computer that are one of similar to or different from files present in other computers in the set of computers;
- and
- a display for displaying the similar or different files to a user.
A computer program product in a computer readable medium for correlating resources across a plurality of computers in a network for display, comprising:
- first instructions for identifying a set of computers within the plurality of computers in the network;
- second instructions for examining the resources present in the set of computers to identify files present on each computer that are one of similar to or different from files present in other computers in the set of computers;
- and
- third instructions for displaying the similar or different files to a user.
