Method of collecting a copyright fee for a document requested via an interactive surface

A method of collecting a copyright fee relating to a document when a user requests the document via:

• an interactive surface comprising information relating to the document and a plurality of printed tags, each tag containing coded data identifying a region of the surface in which the tag appears and a location of the tag within that region;
• and
• a sensing device which, when placed in an operative position relative to a tag, generates indicating data indicative of a region of the surface in which the tag appears and the location of the sensing device within that region, using at least some of the coded data,
• the method including, in a computer system, the steps of:
• (a) receiving, from the sensing device, the indicating data;
• (b) identifying, from the indicating data, the request for the document;
• (c) retrieving the document from a document database;
• (d) providing the user with access to the document;
• (e) identifying, from a copyright database, a copyright ownership relating to the document;
• (f) determining the copyright fee from the copyright ownership;
• and
• (g) debiting a user account associated with the user in the amount of the copyright fee.
