Abstract
The present invention generally relates to one or more methods of using semi-synthetic vesicles as contrasting agents for ultrasound imaging.
Claims15
A process of using semi-synthetic gas vesicles as a contrasting agent, comprising:
- injecting semi-synthetic gas vesicles in the vicinity of a biological target, wherein the vesicles associate with the target and are operable to reflect ultrasonic acoustic waves;
- subjecting the target to ultrasonic acoustic waves;
- collecting at least a portion of the reflected ultrasonic waves;
- converting the collected ultrasonic waves to an electrical signal;
- transmitting the electrical signal to a computer, wherein the computer is programmed to convert the transmitted electrical signal into an image of the target;
- and
- displaying the image.
4 more elements
An ultrasonic contrasting agent, comprising:
- gas vesicles, wherein the vesicles are crosslinked.
A process of making an ultrasonic contrasting agent, comprising:
- providing gas vesicles;
- crosslinking the gas vesicles by contacting them with one or more crosslinking agents;
- and
- recovering the crosslinked gas vesicles.
