Abstract
Two or more disks of single or multiple materials of any given diameter and thickness whether homogeneous, tapered or contoured in a constant, linear or non-linear fashion in the axial direction with one or more openings in the disk(s) to create a fluid flow channel from the periphery of the disk(s) to the center near the shaft or vice versa and spaced a distance apart by a bracket, spacer or location along the shaft, used to comprise a disk assembly of a bladeless compressor, pump or turbine. Embodiments of this invention include the non-constant treatment of the assembly outer diameter, fluid flow channel inner and/or outer diameters as well as the differentiation in gap size between disks of the assembly.

Two or more disks of single or multiple materials of any given diameter and thickness whether homogeneous, tapered or contoured in a constant, linear or non-linear fashion in the axial direction with one or more openings in the disk(s) to create a fluid flow channel from the periphery of the disk(s) to the center near the shaft or vice versa and spaced a given distance apart by a bracket, spacer or location along the shaft, used to comprise a disk assembly of a bladeless compressor, pump or turbine. The outer diameter of said disk assembly is non-constant, where ∇RODDisk≠0 and ∇2RODDisk≠0 or ∇RODDisk=0 and ∇2RODDisk≠0 or ∇RODDisk≠0 and ∇2RODDisk=0, from disk to disk, constant or varying linearly, non-linearly, by step function or at random with a positive or negative gradient on any one, two or three of the standard cylindrical axes. Said disk assembly with non-constant outer diameter excludes the one possibility of ∂RODDisk/∂x=constant described above as prior art.
The outer diameter of the fluid flow channel of said disk assembly is non-constant, where ∇RODChannel≠0 and ∇2RODChannel≠0 or ∇RODChannel=0 and ∇2RODChannel≠0 or ∇RODChannel≠0 and ∇2RODChannel=0, through the disk(s) and/or disk-bracket-disk and/or disk-spacer-disk and/or disk-placement-disk, varying linearly or non-linearly with a positive or negative gradient on any one, two or three of the standard cylindrical axes. Said disk assembly with non-constant outer diameter of the fluid flow channel excludes the one possibility of ∂RODChannle/∂x=constant described above as prior art.
The inner diameter of the fluid flow channel of said disk assembly is non-constant, where ∇RIDChannel≠0 and ∇2RIDChannel≠0 or ∇RIDChannel=0 and ∇2RIDChannel≠0 or ∇RIDChannel≠0 and ∇2RIDChannel=0, through the disk(s) and/or disk-bracket-disk and/or disk-spacer-disk and/or disk-placement-disk, varying linearly or non-linearly with a positive or negative gradient on any one, two or three of the standard cylindrical axes.
When more than one space or gap between disks exists in an assembly caused by a spacer, bracket and/or disk placement along the shaft, the size of the gaps and/or spaces between the disks of the assembly are not the same, non-constant, in size in any of the three cylindrical coordinates. Said gaps vary, where ∇Gap≠0 and ∇2Gap≠0 or ∇Gap=0 and ∇2Gap≠0 or ∇Gap≠0 and ∇2Gap=0, linearly and/or non-linearly and/or randomly with a positive or negative gradient on any one, two or three of the standard cylindrical axes.
