Abstract
A vehicle hazard warning system and method are provided wherein a center high mounted rear stop light (“CHMSL”) is connected to the vehicle's flasher circuit so that it flashes simultaneously with at least the vehicle's rear turn signal lights, and preferably with the front turn signal lights as well, to create a more effective warning signal that the vehicle is a potential hazard to other vehicles approaching from the rear. The CHMSL can also be connected to automatically commence flashing with the other recited lights, and with simultaneously activated clear steady back up lights of the vehicle, whenever the vehicle is moving rearward.
Claims14
A vehicle hazard warning system which comprises a flasher switch and circuit operable by a vehicle driver or occupant to flash at least two rear turn signal lights of a vehicle, a CHMSL included in the vehicle's rear, said CHMSL being connected to the flasher circuit so that it is flashed simultaneously with the two rear turn signal lights, whereby a more effective hazard warning signal is created by the area bounded by the three distances extending between the rear lights and the CHMSL.
A method of creating a vehicle hazard warning signal which comprises providing a flasher switch and circuit which are operable by a vehicle operator or occupant to flash at least two rear turn signal lights and a CHMSL of a vehicle, and activating the flasher switch and circuit to initiate simultaneous flashing of the rear lights and CHMSL, thereby more effectively signaling that the vehicle is a potential hazard to other vehicles approaching from the rear.
