Abstract
A carbon fiber paper manufacturing process and construction has oxidized fiber as raw material needle punched into a construction of 0.1˜20 mm thick, 5˜500 g/m2 oxidized fiber felt of weight, then impregnated in high density epoxy, hot compressed and hardened, then finally carbonization processed at temperature range of 700˜3000° C. to yield porous carbon fiber paper with high resilience, low porosity, and flexure, and low surface resistance to be used as the substrate of porous carbon electrode in fuel battery.
Claims19
A carbon fiber paper manufacturing process includes felt making, multiple oxidized fibers being consistently arranged and dispersed, needle-punched into a felt in thickness of 0.01 mm˜50 mm and weight between 5˜500 g/m2;
- resin impregnation, the felt being dipped into a high-density resin for fibers to be impregnated with resin;
- hot compression hardening, the resin impregnated felt being heated up to 50˜300° C. for the resin to get completely hardened and pressed into a thickness between 0.1˜15 mm with the containment of the oxidized fiber not less than 60 wt % of the total weight of the felt;
- carbonization treatment;
- the hardened felt being heated up to 700˜3000° C. under the protection of inertia gas;
- and finished product, oxidized fibers, and resin into a material with carbon structure after the carbonization turning into carbon fibers to come up with the finished product of conductive carbon fiber paper.
A construction of a carbon fiber paper is comprised of carbon fiber and high-density resin with the diameter of the carbon fiber falling between 5˜20 μm, length between 0.1˜15 cm and LOI not less than 40.
