Abstract
A UPS power distribution panel which includes means for detecting and differentiating between a symmetrical current waveform and a non-symmetrical current waveform and means for tripping and clearing a circuit breaker in the former but not the latter condition within one current waveform cycle.
Claims18
A panel to distribute power, the panel comprising:
- at least one breaker, and
- means for detecting a current waveform in power provided to the panel,
- wherein the means for detecting the current waveform is configured to close the breaker upon detecting a non-symmetrical current waveform,
- wherein the means for detecting the current waveform is configured to open the breaker upon detecting a symmetrical current waveform within one cycle of the detected symmetrical current waveform.

A panel to distribute power, the panel comprising:
- at least one breaker characterized by a threshold current, whereupon detection by the breaker of a current waveform comprising a first pulse and a second pulse,
- the breaker opens within one cycle of the detected current waveform if the second pulse exceeds the threshold current and the ratio of current between the first pulse and second pulse is at most a first ratio,
- the breaker remains closed if the second pulse exceeds the threshold current and the ratio of current between the first pulse and second pulse is at least a second ratio wherein the second ratio is higher than the first ratio.
A method of distributing power, the method comprising:
- (a) detecting a current waveform;
- (b) determining whether the detected current waveform is a symmetrical current waveform or a non-symmetrical current waveform;
- and
- (c) stopping the distribution of power within one current waveform cycle if the detected current waveform is a symmetrical current waveform and continuing the distribution of power if the detected current waveform is a non-symmetrical current waveform.

A method of distributing power, the method comprising:
- (a) detecting a current waveform comprising a first pulse and a second pulse;
- (b) determining whether the second pulse exceeds a threshold current;
- and
- (c) if the second pulse exceeds the threshold current,
- stopping the distribution of power within one current waveform cycle if the ratio of current between the first pulse and second pulse is at most a first ratio, and
- continuing the distribution of power if the ratio of current between the first pulse and second pulse is at least a second ratio, wherein the second ratio is higher than the first ratio.
