Abstract
A composition, and method of use, for controlling, reducing or preventing the growth of protozoal bacteria in the ruman of a rumiant comprising cell bodies of a facultative anaerobe selected from the group consisting of Corynebacterium cell bodies and Brevibacterium cell bodies or a mixture of Corynebacterium cell bodies and Brevibacterium cell bodies, glutamic acid fermention solubles, corn fermentation solubles, glutamic acid fermentation solubles and corn fermentation solubles.
Claims11
A method for controlling, reducing or preventing the growth or protozoa in the rumen of a ruminant, comprising feeding an antiprotozoal amount of a composition comprising one or more of a) isolated cell bodies of a facultative anaerobe Corynebacterium, or Brevibacterium, or a mixture thereof, or b) glutamic acid fermentation solubles, corn fermentation solubles, or mixture thereof, or c) a mixture of a) and b) to a ruminant.
A method of increasing the facultative bacterial population in the rumen of a ruminant animal by controlling, reducing or preventing the growth of protozoa in the rumen, comprising feeding to a ruminant an antiprotozoal amount of a composition comprising one or more of Corynebacterium cell bodies, Brevibacterium cell bodies, said cell bodies having antiprotozoal activity and are disposed to drive fermentation to yield glutamic acid fermentation solubles, or corn fermentation solubles, and glutamic acid.
A method for controlling, reducing or preventing the growth of protozoal bacteria in the rumen of a ruminant comprising feeding an antiprotozoal amount of a composition comprising one or more of a) Corynebacterium cell bodies, Brevibacterium cell bodies, or a mixture thereof, b) glutamic acid fermentation solubles, corn fermentation solubles or a mixture thereof, or c) a mixture of a) and b) to a ruminant;
- said cell bodies and solubles having been dried to a total moisture content of less than 30% by weight at a temperature not less than about 80° F. and not more than about 900° F., said cell bodies and said fermentation solubles having antiprotozoal activity when introduced to the rumen of the ruminant.
