Abstract
Embodiments of the present invention are directed to a system and method for measuring blood oxygen saturation. Specifically, embodiments of the present invention include emitting light having a wavelength spectrum that is optimized for an oxygen saturation reading less than 80 percent, detecting the light, and transmitting signals based on the detected light, the signals being useful in determining blood oxygen saturation with a pulse oximeter.
Claims25
A method for measuring blood oxygen saturation, comprising:
- emitting light having a wavelength spectrum that is optimized for an oxygen saturation reading less than 80 percent;
- detecting the light;
- and
- transmitting signals based on the detected light, the signals being useful in determining blood oxygen saturation with a pulse oximeter.
A sensor for measuring blood oxygen saturation, comprising:
- a light emitter configured to emit light having a wavelength spectrum that is optimized for an oxygen saturation reading less than 80 percent;
- and
- a light detector configured to detect the light and to transmit signals based on the detected light, the signals being useful in determining blood oxygen saturation with a pulse oximeter.
A method of manufacturing a sensor for measuring blood oxygen saturation, comprising:
- providing a light emitter configured to emit light having a wavelength spectrum that is optimized for an oxygen saturation reading less than 80 percent;
- and
- providing a light detector configured to detect the light and to transmit signals based on the detected light, the signals being useful in determining blood oxygen saturation with a pulse oximeter.
A pulse oximeter system, comprising:
- a pulse oximeter configured to read signal data and derive patient physiological data from the signal data;
- and
- a sensor comprising:
- a light emitter configured to emit light having a wavelength spectrum that is optimized for an oxygen saturation reading less than 80 percent;
- and
- a light detector configured to detect the light and to transmit signals based on the detected light, the signals comprising the signal data being useful in determining blood oxygen saturation with the pulse oximeter.
