Abstract
The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for writing data to a storage layer of a magneto-optical recording medium using a laser beam of a predetermined power level (Pw) and a magnetic a field modulated to at least two predetermined field levels (+Hw; −Hw) in accordance with said writing data The predetermined power level and/or the at least two predetermined field levels are adjusted in dependence on a pattern of previously recorded data so as to compensate for stray field variations caused by run lengths of the previously recorded data pattern. Read-out jitter and errors can be reduced thereby.
Claims16
An apparatus for writing data to a storage layer of a magneto-optical recording medium (10), said apparatus comprising:
- a) writing means (12, 30) for writing said data to said storage layer using a radiation beam of a predetermined power level and timing and a magnetic field modulated to at least two predetermined field levels in accordance with said writing data;
- b) conversion means (22;
- 23) for converting a data pattern previously supplied to said writing means into a control signal;
- and
- c) adjusting means (14;
- 32) for receiving said control signal and for adjusting at least one of the following:
- said predetermined power level, said timing, and said at least two predetermined field levels in dependence on said control signal.
A writing method for writing data to a storage layer of a magneto-optical recording medium (10), said method comprising the steps of:
- a) writing said data to said storage layer using a radiation beam of a predetermined power level and timing and a magnetic field modulated to at least two predetermined field levels in accordance with said writing data;
- and
- b) adjusting at least one of the following said:
- predetermined power level and timing and said at least two predetermined field levels in dependence on a pattern previously used in said writing step.
