Abstract
A light pipe includes a light input end and a diffractive structure. The diffractive structure includes elongated formations having diffractive properties for coupling light out from the light pipe to provide backlighting of a flat-panel display. The elongated formations are curved, the curvature being dependent on the location of a light source at the light input end.
Claims18
A light pipe comprising a light input end and a diffractive structure including elongated curved formations having diffractive properties for coupling light out from the light pipe to provide backlighting of a flat-panel display, wherein the curvature is dependent on the location of a light source at the light input end.
A display arrangement comprising at least one light source, a flat panel display and a light pipe, the light pipe comprising a light input end and a diffractive structure including elongated curved formations having diffractive properties for coupling light out from the light pipe to provide backlighting, wherein the curvature is dependent on the location of a light source at the light input end.
A method for providing backlighting of a flat-panel display, the method comprising the steps of inputting light at an input end of a light pipe into a diffractive structure provided with diffractive properties and coupling light out from curved elongated formations of the diffractive structure, the curvature of the elongated formations being dependent on the location of a light source at the light input end.
Dependencies are inferred from the claim text.
