Image data processing method and apparatus, storage medium product, and program product

A data processing apparatus comprising:

• means for determining whether data corresponding to a color signal input from an input device is included within an area defined by color matching correction data for a printer;
• means for shifting data, which is not included in said area as a result of said determining step, to data of the same hue while preserving luminance so that the data after the shift is included in said area;
• means for converting the data after the shift using the color matching correction data;
• and
• means for enlarging a color reproduction area of the data after the conversion within a color reproducible area of said printer based on an amount of the shift made in said shifting step.

A program product containing a program, said program including the steps of:

• determining whether data corresponding to a color signal input from an input device is included within an area defined by color matching correction data for a printer;
• shifting data, which is not included in said area as a result of said determining step, to data of the same hue while preserving luminance so that the data after the shift is included in said area;
• converting the data after the shift using the color matching correction data;
• and
• enlarging a color reproduction area of the data after the conversion within a color reproducible area of said printer based on an amount of the shift made in said shifting step.

A storage medium product storing a program, said program including the steps of:

• determining whether data corresponding to a color signal input from an input device is included within an area defined by color matching correction data for a printer;
• shifting data, which is not included in said area as a result of said determining step, to data of the same hue while preserving luminance so that the data after the shift is included in said area;
• converting the data after the shift using the color matching correction data;
• and
• enlarging a color reproduction area of the data after the conversion within a color reproducible area of said printer based on an amount of the shift made in said shifting step.

An image data processing method comprising the steps of:

• determining whether image data is included within an area defined by color matching correction data for a printer;
• shifting image data, which is not included in said area as a result of said determining step, to image data included in said area while preserving hue and luminance;
• converting the image data after the shift using the color matching correction data;
• and
• enlarging a color reproduction area of the image data after the conversion within a color reproducible area of said printer based on an amount of the shift made in said shifting step.
