Abstract
Heated architectural panel temperature control systems and methods are provided for heating windows that are formed from heated architectural panels. The control system comprises the heated architectural panel that produces heat when connected to external AC power, a panel frame disposed around the panel periphery, and a temperature control circuit that is electrically connected to the window. The temperature control circuit, which may be disposed in the panel frame, controls the temperature of the panel by utilizing a Hall effect sensor and the panel temperature coefficient of resistance α. The panel may comprise insulated glass panels, laminated structures, or combinations thereof, where the window is disposed in an opening of a building.
Claims15
A heated architectural panel system for a building, comprising:
- at least one architectural panel, the architectural panel having an electrically conductive coating disposed on at least a major surface thereof;
- and
- a temperature control circuit comprising a Hall effect sensor, the temperature control circuit being in electrical communication with the electrically conductive coating and capable of controlling the temperature of the panel utilizing the Hall effect sensor and the panel temperature coefficient of resistance α;
- wherein the panel is disposed in an opening in a building and the electrically conductive coating is connected to a source of electrical alternating current.
A building, comprising:
- a building having openings;
- a plurality of architectural panels, each of the architectural panels having an electrically conductive coating disposed on at least a major surface thereof and each architectural panel disposed in an opening in the building;
- and
- a temperature control circuit comprising at least one micro-controller, the micro-controller being in electrical communication with each of the conductive coatings on the panels and capable of controlling the temperature of each architectural panel by way of the panel temperature coefficient of resistance α for each of the architectural panels;
- wherein each architectural panel is connected to a source of electrical alternating current.
A method of heating a heated architectural panel for a building, comprising:
- disposing a heated architectural panel in an opening in a building;
- applying electrical alternating current to the heated architectural panel;
- and
- controlling the temperature of the heated architectural panel utilizing a Hall effect sensor and the panel temperature coefficient of resistance α.
