A tampon, especially for feminine hygiene of high buckling strength comprising a relatively high density compressed fiber core and an outer layer comprising a plurality of lower density longitudinal fiber ribs extending radially outward therefrom to provide a soft outer surface of the tampon.
The tampon of claim 1, wherein the fiber core and fiber ribs are comprised of natural fibers.
The tampon of claim 1, wherein the fiber core and fiber ribs are comprised of synthetic fibers.
The tampon of claim 1, wherein the fiber core and fiber ribs are comprised of a mixture of natural and synthetic fibers.
