Abstract
A novel inbred maize line designated PHCMV and seed, plants and plant parts thereof. Methods for producing a maize plant that comprise crossing inbred maize line PHCMV with another maize plant. Methods for producing a maize plant containing in its genetic material one or more traits introgressed into PHCMV through backcross conversion and/or transformation, and to the maize seed, plant and plant part produced thereby. Hybrid maize seed, plant or plant part produced by crossing the inbred line PHCMV or a trait conversion of PHCMV with another maize line. Inbred maize lines derived from inbred maize line PHCMV, methods for producing other inbred maize lines derived from inbred maize line PHCMV and the inbred maize lines and their parts derived by the use of those methods.
Claims24
A process of introducing a desired trait into maize inbred line PHCMV comprising:
- (a) crossing PHCMV plants grown from PHCMV seed, representative seed of which has been deposited under ATCC Accession Number PTA-7036, with plants of another maize line that comprise a desired trait to produce F1 progeny plants, wherein the desired trait is selected from the group consisting of waxy starch, male sterility, herbicide resistance, insect resistance, bacterial disease resistance, fungal disease resistance, and viral disease resistance;
- (b) selecting F1 progeny plants that have the desired trait to produce selected F1 progeny plants;
- (c) crossing the selected progeny plants with the PHCMV plants to produce backcross progeny plants;
- (d) selecting for backcross progeny plants that have the desired trait and the alleles of inbred line PHCMV at the SSR loci listed in Table 2 to produce selected backcross progeny plants;
- and
- (e) repeating steps (c) and (d) to produce backcross progeny plants that comprise the desired trait and comprise at least 95% of the alleles of inbred line PHCMV at the SSR loci listed in Table 2,
A maize plant having all the physiological and morphological characteristics of inbred line PHCMV, wherein a sample of the seed of inbred line PHCMV was deposited under ATCC Accession Number PTA-7036.
