Abstract
Techniques for improving operating system performance are provided. A subsystem of an operating system operates as a kernel mode component, such as a kernel mode driver, instead of operating as a user mode component.
Claims22
A system for improving performance of an operating system, comprising:
- a subsystem operating in kernel mode, the subsystem for receiving and processing requests from an operating system component;
- and
- a kernel for receiving and processing calls from the subsystem, the calls occurring in kernel mode without causing a context switch from user mode.
A method performed by a subsystem for improving performance of an operating system, the subsystem operating in a kernel mode of the operating system, comprising:
- receiving a request for an operating system function from an operating system component;
- and
- calling a function provided by a kernel to perform the request, the calling occurring in kernel mode without causing a context switch from user mode.
A computer-readable medium having computer-executable instructions for performing a method in kernel mode of an operating system, comprising:
- receiving a request for an operating system function from an operating system component;
- and
- calling a function provided by a kernel to perform the request, the calling occurring in kernel mode without causing a context switch from user mode.
