Abstract
This invention relates to novel benzimidazole derivatives of formula (I), pharmaceutical compositions containing these compounds, and methods of treatment therewith. The compounds of the invention are useful in the treatment of central nervous system diseases and disorders, which are responsive to modulation of the GABAA receptor complex, and in particular for combating anxiety and related diseases.

A compound of the Formula I:
- or an N-oxide thereof, or any of its isomers or any mixture of its isomers,
- or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof,
- wherein
- R represents cycloalkyl;
- and
- R′ represents a 5-7-membered heterocyclic ring;
- which heterocyclic ring may optionally be substituted one or more substituents independently selected from the group consisting of with halo, hydroxy, amino, alkylamino, aminoalkyl, alkylaminoalkyl, cyano, nitro, trifluoromethyl, trifluoromethoxy, alkoxy, alkoxyalkyl, cycloalkoxy, alkyl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkylalkyl, alkenyl, and alkynyl.
