Abstract
The present invention is a system and method which controls outer loop transmit power for transmission power of an uplink/downlink communication in a wireless communication system. The system receives a communication from a base station and determines an error rate on the received communication. The system then distinguishes between static and dynamic channels, produces a static adjustment value, and characterizes the dynamic channels to generate a dynamic adjustment value. The target power level is then adjusted by the static and dynamic adjustment values, setting the transmission power level.
Claims12
A method for controlling base station transmit power in a wireless communication system having at least one user equipment (UE), the method comprising the steps of:
- receiving at the at least one UE a signal from the base station;
- measuring a channel dependant value from the received signal in each of two windows separated by a selected time gap in a time domain;
- detecting a difference in the two measured channel dependant values;
- comparing the difference with a predetermined threshold;
- and
- adjusting a target transmit power level of the base station when the difference is greater than the threshold.
A user equipment (UE) in a wireless communication system having a base station, the UE configured to facilitate control of the base station transmit power based on a target power level, the UE comprising:
- a receiver configured to receive a signal transmitted from the base station;
- a measuring device configured to measure a channel dependant value from the received signal at each of two windows separated by a selected time gap in the time domain;
- a detector configured to detect a difference in two measured channel dependant values;
- a comparator configured to compare a detected difference with a predetermined threshold;
- and
- a target control device configured to adjust the target power level when a detected difference is greater than the threshold.
