Abstract
Secure safe sender lists are described. In an implementation, a method includes determining which of a plurality of hierarchical levels corresponds to a message received via a network. Each of the hierarchical level is defined by mechanisms for identifying a sender of the message. The message is routed according to the corresponding one of the hierarchical levels.
Claims20
A method comprising:
- receiving a message from a sender via a network;
- and
- verifying an identity of the sender using a plurality of identifying mechanisms referenced in a safe sender list, wherein at least one said identifying mechanism is able to be performed without utilizing the sender's address and without querying the sender.
A method comprising:
- determining which of a plurality of hierarchical levels corresponds to a message received via a network, wherein each said hierarchical level:
- is defined by mechanisms for identifying a sender of the message;
- and
- corresponds to a likelihood that a sender's identity verified using said mechanisms referenced by the hierarchical level is accurate;
- and
- routing the message according to the corresponding said hierarchical level.
One or more computer readable media comprising computer executable instructions that, when executed on a computer, direct the computer to verify an identity of a sender of an email using a third-party certificate.
