Bitmask access for managing blog content

A server for managing content for use in a blog, comprising:

• a memory for storing data;
• and
• a processor that employs the stored data to perform actions, comprising:
• receiving a bitmask for a content item in a database associated with the blog, wherein the bitmask enables a contributor of the content item to directly control an attribute associated with the content item;
• associating the bitmask with the content item in the blog database;
• and
• providing the bitmask to the blog.

A computer-readable medium storing instructions causing a computer program to execute a computer process for managing content associated with a blog, the instructions comprising:

• determining a bitmask for a content item in the blog, wherein the bitmask enables a contributor of the content item to directly control an attribute of the content item;
• associating the bitmask with the content item in the blog;
• and
• providing the bitmask to the blog.

A client device that is configured to manage a database over a network for use in a blog, comprising:

• a transceiver for receiving and sending information over the network;
• and
• an application that is configured to perform actions, including:
• providing a content item to the database;
• determining a bitmask for the provided content item, wherein at least a portion of the bitmask corresponds to an attribute, the bitmask enabling a contributor of the content item to directly control the attribute for the provided content item;
• associating the bitmask with the content item in the database;
• and
• providing the bitmask to the database.
