Abstract

System and method for minimizing transfer of motion picture data manipulated with outsourced labor to allow locations with low bandwidth communications links to be used. Allows for transfer of a small version of a workpiece, e.g., a compressed version of an image, receipt of manipulation commands from outsourcing site and application of commands on original data locally. For example, allows for the transfer of at least one JPEG image (at various compression factors, lower color depth, or resized to a smaller number of pixels) to an outsourcing location wherein the transfer results in a small transfer of image data over the communications link. The outsourcing location then performs operations on the compressed data, e.g., rotoscope, mask, remove scratches, etc. The operations are then sent back (a small transfer of command data) and applied to the original image. By avoiding transfers of the original image to/from the outsourcing location, large amounts of data transfer are avoided.

Dependent claims

In a computer system, a system for minimizing transfer of motion picture data manipulated with outsourced labor comprising:

generating a first project data file comprising a small version of an original project data file;
transmitting said first project data file from a first work site to a second project data file at a second work site;
receiving at least one operation at said first work site wherein said at least one operation is performed at said second work site on said second project data file wherein said operation is performed by an outsourced laborer and wherein said operation is used for restoration, colorization, rotoscoping, post production, scratch removal, color correction or microphone removal;
applying said at least one operation performed at said second work site to said original project data file at said first work site;
and,
producing a finished work product at said first work site without copying said second data file to said first work site.
